Jane Lyster is a working artist who can turn her hand to any made project. After completing a fine art textile degree, she discovered many different materials and media. At the same time, she became a carnival artist, working on street-based art, encouraging the public to dress up and to make each other laugh. Part of this celebratory work included large embroidered banner backdrops for a speech by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
For twenty years she lectured at an art college, delivering a varied program including drawing, photography, fashion and textiles. She was launch editor of Making, a magazine about contemporary crafts in the home, and has since worked as a food technician on several major films such as W.E, Madonna’s film about King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, and The Iron Lady, with Meryl Streep. She lives on the south-east coast of England with her husband and two not-so-small sons.
